Am I a fool, or just an oxymoron?
Bespoke Fast-fashion. Ethical Factory.
Rarely are these words used in the same sentence.
Fast-fashion is produced in massive, impersonal factories. In far-off countries. And sometimes the working conditions and quality aren’t great, but the prices are – so, we don’t give it a lot of thought.
And bespoke or ethically made clothing is costly and slow.
At Binky Higgins, we had an idea…
What if we could disrupt the status quo - the supply chain - and reinvent the way fashion is offered to you? Could we bring you well-priced, well-made, limited edition clothing and accessories every couple of days? Could we create a working environment in a beautiful, airy, light-filled space? Could we empower young women with sustainable skills and encourage them to be involved in the creative process?
Well, we realized we could. Yes, the profit margins wouldn’t be as great as those enjoyed by the shops that fill your malls and high streets, but it would certainly be worth it in a myriad of ways.
We could make cool stuff…and make a difference.
So, that’s what we’re doing. Every couple of days we send you an e-mail of a new item that we’ve designed, cut and sewn here in Siem Reap, Cambodia – and every two weeks or so we ship it all to the US to send to you and a small group of very smart and lucky people. And then we start all over again.
Sometimes two words that don’t seem to go together make a lot of sense.
You know, like jumbo shrimp.
